Gandaki Chief Minister Pandey resigns

KATHMANDU: Surendra Raj Pandey, the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province representing the Nepali Congress (NC) party, has tendered his resignation from his position.

Pandey submitted his resignation to State Chief, Dilliraj Bhatta, on Wednesday morning.

His resignation comes in the wake of political shifts, as outlined in Article 168 of the Constitution, sub-section 2, which mandates the Chief Minister to have the support of two or more parties.

With the withdrawal of support from the Maoist Center, Pandey opted to resign rather than pursue a renewed majority coalition.

However, amidst the political reshuffle, Pandey is reportedly eyeing reinstatement as Chief Minister, this time aligning himself with a larger political entity.
