Female red panda found dead in Ilam

ILAM: An endangered animal, a red panda, has been found dead in Nepal’s Ilam district.

The female red panda was found dead at Jaubari of Sandakpur rural municipality-5 in Ilam.

A local Prajjwal Bhattarai informed that they spotted the endangered mammal while fencing the plantation area near Gauribas Road.

Mayor of Sandakpur rural municipality, Sabin Bhattarai, said the dead red panda was sent to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Centre in the presence of the livestock section of the rural municipality, Sandakpur sub-division Deuraili, Choyatar Community Forest Consumers Committee, Health Post, and the locals. Jaubari borders India.

The locals informed that the open border had fomented poaching of the red panda.

The red panda is found at Jaubari, Jamuna, Choyatar and the vicinity.

Although some organizations are active in conservation of red panda, it is yet to be effective, the locals complained.
