Candidacy filing for HoR Speaker taking place today

Rastriya Swatantra Party nominates Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal

KATHMANDU: The filing of candidacy for the election of Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) is taking place today.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has scheduled nominations from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, with the final list of candidates to be published at 2:30 pm. The election is set for Sunday (April 5), 11:00 am.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has nominated Vice President Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, with the proposal unanimously approved at the party’s parliamentary meeting on Thursday.

Holding nearly two-thirds of the 182-seat House, the RSP’s candidate is widely expected to win. Aryal, elected from Kathmandu Constituency-9, previously served as acting party president.

The Secretariat noted that if multiple candidates are nominated, the election will proceed as scheduled, but given the current parliamentary arithmetic, Aryal is likely to be elected unopposed.
