Ward chairperson nabbed for allowing illegal excavation

SIRAHA: A ward chairperson has been arrested on the charge of giving consent to contractors for the excavation of pebbles, stone, and sand from Chure and forest areas illegally.

The Division Forest Office, Lahan held Chairperson of Karjanha municipality-1, Phanindra Prasad Pokharel, on Friday.

Information Officer at the Division Forest Office, Radheshyam Chaudhary, shared that ward chairperson Pokharel was nabbed after finding evidence of Pokharel’s support for the recommendation to excavate Kamala river bank at Karjanha-1 against existing laws and acts.

He has been kept in the custody of Division Forest office for further investigation.

Similarly, Division Forest Office had arrested crusher owner Mohammad Khalil Rain on Thursday on the charge of his involvement in illegal mining of pebbles, stones and sand and investigation into the case was underway.
