KATHMANDU: Nepal has won Singapore by 8 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Qualifier played at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Ground in Kirtipur today.

In a stellar opening match, Nepal secured an impressive 8-wicket triumph over Singapore.

Chasing Singapore’s 146-run target, Nepal reached the goal in just 16.3 overs, having lost only 2 wickets.

Leading the charge for Nepal was opener Kushal Bhurtel, whose brilliant performance with the bat included 8 fours and 2 sixes off 48 balls, contributing 74 runs to the team’s victory.

Notably, his 26-ball half-century marked his seventh T20 International half-century.

Joining the fray, fellow opener Asif Shaikh also made a notable contribution, scoring 27 runs with 2 fours and 1 six off 26 balls.

The formidable partnership of 84 runs between Kushal and Asif set Nepal on a smooth path to victory in just 9.1 overs.

Captain Rohit Paudel played a vital role, remaining unbeaten at 35 runs off 24 balls, while Kushal Malla’s swift hit of a six in a single ball consolidated Nepal’s commanding position.

Prior to Nepal’s stellar performance, Singapore, having won the morning toss and elected to bat first, managed to post 145 runs on the board, losing 9 wickets in the process.

Despite an early setback with the loss of captain Aritra Dutt in the opening over, Singapore displayed resilience, forging a 52-run partnership for the second wicket.
