Climate Change Summit concludes in Pokhara committing to confront unprecedented challenges



POKHARA: A two-day Summit on Climate Change (SCC) aimed at tackling the urgent challenge of climate change concluded in Pokhara on Thursday.

The summit, jointly organized by the US Alumni Network (NUSAN) and the Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR), in collaboration with CACN Cohort Nepal and the Champions Network, took place on June 28 and 29. The event concluded with a strong commitment to addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

The summit convened influential leaders, experts, and stakeholders from across Nepal, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange to devise innovative solutions. Together, they charted a sustainable path forward, recognizing the need for collective action in addressing climate change.

The event received valuable support from the United States Embassy in Nepal and witnessed the participation of over 70 young individuals from various regions of the country. Their active engagement further enriched the discussions and outcomes of the summit.

With an unwavering commitment to securing a sustainable future, the declaration serves as a resounding call to action, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate and bold measures to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change.

The declaration also underscores the collective recognition that climate change is a global issue that necessitates global solutions, requiring collaboration, innovation, and unprecedented cooperation.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the declaration expresses a firm commitment to setting ambitious emission reduction targets in line with the latest scientific recommendations.

This step signifies a shared resolve to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with an aim for 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Likewise, acknowledging the crucial role of renewable energy in decarbonizing our economies, the declaration advocates for a significant increase in investment in clean and sustainable energy sources. This commitment aims to expedite the transition away from fossil fuels and foster the development and adoption of renewable technologies.
