KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 25 people from various locations in Kaski, Morang, Sunsari, Bardiya, Dhanusha, Jhapa, Lalitpur, Kailali, Tanahun and Udayapur on charges of possessing illegal drugs, including tapentadol, substances resembling brown sugar and heroin, marijuana, tramadol, pollen and pregabalin.
According to the Central Police Newsroom, five people, including Sandeep Gurung, were arrested with 220 tapentadol tablets from Simpani in Pokhara Metropolitan City-1, Kaski. During the subsequent investigation, 21-year-old Lucas Tamang was also arrested with 800 tapentadol tablets from a residence in Hemja, Pokhara-25.
Three people were arrested in separate incidents in Morang. Prashant Magar, 22, was arrested with 390 milligrams of a substance resembling brown sugar from Khoksi, Sundarharaincha Municipality-5. Similarly, 18-year-old Kishore was arrested with around 100 grams of marijuana from Birantol, Letang-3, while 24-year-old Nimes Ghimire was arrested with 2.5 grams of a substance resembling brown sugar from Nursery Danda, Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-6.
In Sunsari, three people, including Mohan Gurung, were arrested with 5.85 grams of a substance resembling brown heroin from Shivnarayan Tole in Itahari-10. Meanwhile, Devi Sunar, 52, was arrested with 349.36 grams of brown heroin from Badhaiyatal Rural Municipality-2, Bardiya. In Dhanusha, 28-year-old Umesh Mandal was arrested with 39.36 grams of brown heroin from Bideh Municipality-8.
In Jhapa, 40-year-old Santosh Rajbanshi was arrested with 490 milligrams of a substance resembling brown sugar from Birtamod Municipality-3. Police made three arrests in two separate incidents in Lalitpur. Two people, including Suraj Tamang, were arrested from Harisiddhi Gumthachowk in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-29 with 60 tramadol tablets and four grams of pollen. Likewise, 29-year-old Khagendra Bahadur Raut was arrested from Imadol, Mahalaxmi Municipality-3, with 710 tapentadol tablets and 24 pregabalin tablets.
In Kailali, four people were arrested from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-8 with 1.13 grams of a substance resembling brown sugar. Similarly, two people, including Manoj Thapa, were arrested from Majhphant, Byas Municipality-9, Tanahun, with around 1.55 kilograms of marijuana.
In Udayapur, two people, including Salam Khan, were arrested from Katari Municipality-3 with 61 tapentadol tablets. Police said the arrests were made on Friday and Saturday as part of regular patrols and investigations into drug-related activities.
