SC invalidates govt decision on Martyrs’ Day observance on Fagun 1

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order invalidating the government’s decision to observe Falgun 1 as National Martyrs’ Day and grant a public holiday on this date.

During the hearing, the apex court considered a petition filed by Maoist victim and lawyer Gyanendra Raj Aran and Kalyan Budhathoki, both of whom lost their fathers during the civil war. The court intervened, halting the decision to designate Falgun 1 as Martyrs’ Day and provide a public holiday.

Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Mahesh Sharma Poudel issued this order on Friday.

The petitioners highlighted the thousands of victims from the CPN-Maoist-waged conflict and raised concerns about the injustice faced by three families. They pointed out that designating the day as a national event might further inflict pain on the victims.

Government revokes citizenship of six individuals over document forgery

In a recent development, the government has taken decisive action by revoking the citizenship certificates of six individuals.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on December 28, where it was revealed that these individuals had fraudulently obtained citizenship certificates through the use of fake documents in Siraha.

Patan High Court orders inclusion of all interested individuals in EPS Korean language examinations

In a significant development, the Patan High Court, on Friday, issued an order allowing all interested individuals, including the previously excluded EPS students, to participate in the upcoming EPS Korean Language examinations.

The ruling was delivered by a single bench of Justice Chandra Mani Gyawali during a hearing.

Previously, the court had directed the inclusion of around 28,000 students who had not passed the EPS Korean Language examination specifically designed for shipbuilding. However, the EPS Office had issued a notice permitting only 18 individuals to fill out forms for the upcoming examinations. These 18 individuals submitted their forms on Friday.

Govt forms committee under DIG Acharya to probe Balkumari incident

In response to the tragic incident resulting in the loss of two lives during a demonstration in Lalitpur, the government has formed a three-member investigation committee on Friday afternoon.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has promptly established the investigative committee, with DIG Lalmani Acharya of Kathmandu Valley Police Office as the coordinator.

According to sources within the Home Ministry, the committee includes Assistant Chief District Officer (CDO) of Lalitpur, Amardeep Sunuwar, and Deputy Director of the National Investigation Department, Basu Sigdel.

Balkumari Clash: Second youth succumbs to injuries, adding to fatal toll

Following the earlier report of a 23-year-old youth losing his life in the Balkumari clash, another young individual has tragically succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Patan Hospital.

The initial casualty, Sujan Raut, had passed away at Kist Hospital.

Tensions escalated as Students of the Employment Permit System (EPS) intensified their protests against the Korean government’s decision to exclude those who had participated in ESP examinations from applying for new vacancies in the manufacturing sectors.

Malaysian companies summons 64 Nepali nationals stranded by COVID-19 for salary settlement

Two Malaysian companies, Entities Technocom System Sdn. Bhd. / Pintarmas Sdn. Bhd., operating under a Malaysian Venture Group, have issued a summons for 64 Nepali nationals who returned to Nepal due to the COVID-19 pandemic to collect their pending salaries.

These 64 individuals, employed by the companies since 2014, were unable to return to Malaysia due to the pandemic-induced disruptions.

The companies have cited challenges in reaching out to these employees, leading to delays in salary disbursement.
