Jajarkot earthquake: seven families receive monetary aid

TRIBENI, RUKUM WEST: The families of seven individuals who lost their lives in the November 3 earthquake in Rukum West have received monetary assistance. The distribution of aid was temporarily delayed for them due to documentation issues.

District Disaster Management Committee Coordinator and Chief District Officer, Hari Prasad Pant, said a total of Rs 8.3 million has been allocated to support the bereaved families. The recipients include 10 families from Sanobheri rural municipality-6; 37 from Aathbiskot municipality, one from Chaurjahari municipality and one each from Rolpa and Bardiya.

The families of three from Salyan who were killed in Aathbiskot were provided with the monetary aid from the District Administration Office, Salyan.

The monetary assistance was funded by the federal government. Earlier, the government announced monetary aid of Rs 200,000 each to the bereaved family with an additional Rs 100,000 for families suffering the loss of more than one member, as said by Assistant Chief District Officer, Prabesh Badhuwal. The district received Rs 50 million from the federal government to address the post-quake situation and the remaining funds will be spent for the management of temporary shelter for the affected and their rehabilitation, it is said.

The earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richer Scale, with its epicenter at Ramidanda of Jajarkot district, resulted in 53 fatalities in Rukum West and among them, five were from outside the district.
