Jajarkot earthquake survivor succumbs to cold

JAJARKOT: In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that shattered homes in Jajarkot, the cruel grip of winter claimed yet another victim.

Sharmila Chadara, a 25-year-old resident of Nalgad Municipality-8, lost her life due to the biting cold.

Chadara, who had recently given birth to a daughter, was living under a tarpaulin outside her damaged house.

Tek Bahadur Nepali, a local resident, said that she succumbed to the cold on last night, marking a distressing chapter in the post-earthquake struggles faced by survivors.

Tej Bahadur Singh, the ward chairman of Nalgad-8, said, “The news has come that Chadara, who was living under a tarpaulin outside her house, died of cold.”

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, struck Ramidanda in Jajarkot on the night of November 3, resulting in the tragic loss of 154 lives and leaving 346 injured.

The devastation extended to 26,557 private houses completely destroyed and 35,455 partially damaged.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of the earthquake, the death toll due to cold continues to rise.
