ACC Men’s Premier Cup: Nepal beat Qatar by 68 runs

KATHMANDU: With Sandeep Lamichhane’s outstanding performance in both innings, Nepal beat Qatar by 68 runs in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup undergoing in Kathmandu.

Lamichhane took five wickets for Nepal.

Chasing the modest target of 158 runs given by Nepal, Qatar were confined to 89 runs.

For Qatar, Zaheer Ibrahim and Quran Shehzad scored 15 runs each and Amiq Farooq scored 14 runs. Other players could not even score double figures.

For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane took five wickets, Sompal Kami three, and Lalit Rajwanshi two. Qatar’s first wicket was down for 14 runs. After that, the Nepalese bowler did not let the Qatari batter recollect their strength. Lamichhane was the player of the match.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being invited to bat, Nepal scored 157 runs after losing all wickets in 40.3 overs.

For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane scored 42, Rohit Paudel 27, Aasif Sheikh 19, Dipendra Singh Airee 12, Sompal Kami and Aarif Sheikh 11 each, Gulsan Jha seven, Bhim Sarki six, Kushal Malla three, Kushal Bhurtel two and Lalit Rajwanshi scored one run.

For Qatar, Amir Farooq took four wickets, Owais Ahmed three, Gyan Munweera two, and Ikramullah Khan one.

With this win, Nepal reached the semi-finals by taking a place at the top of Group A with seven points. Nepal won three out of four matches in the league stage and got one point when one match was interrupted due to rain.

Similarly, Oman has also reached the semi-finals from Group A’. Oman won three out of four matches and lost to Nepal.

UAE has entered the semi-finals from Group B. Kuwait and Hong Kong are competing for the other team to reach the semi-finals.
