Maoist Center insists on a consensus candidate for President
The ruling Maoist Center has emphasized that the President should be appointed on the basis of national consensus. Maoist leader Devendra Poudel said that the party’s emphasis is to make the President on the basis of national consensus. Speaking to the media after the meeting of the party’s Standing Committee on Thursday, Poudel said, “If we can forge a national consensus on a common candidate for the President, we can move forward with the common candidate.”
Home Ministry forms committee to investigate Prem Prasad’s self-immolation case
The Ministry of Home Affairs formed a committee to investigate the issues raised by Prem Prasad Acharya of Ilam, who died during treatment after attempting self-immolation. A six-member investigation committee has been formed led by Joint Secretary at the Home Ministry, Narayan Prasad Risal.
PM Dahal and UML Chairman Oli hold talks at Baluwatar
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli held talks at the former’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday morning. The two leaders discussed current political developments, including the election of the President. While the CPN-UML has been firm to its stance on giving its candidacy for the post of the President, Nepali Congress (NC), too, has been lobbying for the top ceremonial post.
Gold price all-time high; traded at Rs 106,900 per tola today
Gold price increased by Rs 700 per tola to trade at Rs 106,900 as compared to the previous trading day. The yellow metal was traded at Rs 106,200 on the previous trading day, Wednesday. A tola gold is equivalent to 11.66 grams.
NC leader Thapa calls for holding Presidential election on time
Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has stressed the need for organising Presidential election in time. There have been efforts in place to postpone the poll under the pretext of the contravention with the constitution and election laws, he reasoned at a gathering at Damauli, Tanahun.
NAC to improve air ticket sales
The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has stepped up preparation to make its ticket sale management further effective. In this connection, NAC has formed a task force to resolve problems that surfaced in the management of ticket sales and distribution within 15 days. Prior to this, the corporation held a discussion with the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) in this regard.
Petroleum Pipeline Project: second phase works accelerated
The second phase works under Nepal-India Cross-Border Petroleum Pipeline Project have been accelerated. Construction of physical infrastructures including petrol tank and ‘transmix tank’ has been started at the depot located at Amalekhgunj of Bara under Nepal Oil Corporation Provincial Office.
Finance Minister pledges IT-friendly customs system
The 71st International Customs Day was observed by organising various program today. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Prasad Poudel, pledged to promote the IT employment in overall infrastructure of customs administration. Woes of local farmers increased when the oranges stored in a cooling center went rotten in Syangja. Some oranges stocked in a cold store being operated by the local Syangja Sheetbhandar Cooperative went decayed.
Call for using hollow bricks to save money, environment
Stakeholders have stressed the need for using hollow bricks instead of ordinary bricks in view of cost-effectiveness and environmental friendliness. The Building Energy Efficiency in Nepal (BEEN) under the Switch-Asia Grants Programme has launched the technology to produce hollow bricks with assistance from the European Union.
KMC removes 9,000 hoarding board in three months
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has removed 9,000 hoarding boards in three months. The objects were placed violating the rules. The local government has mobilized a four-member team who visit the city each day, assess the hoarding boards installed in violation of the rules and remove them.
Snowfall disrupts power supply in Jumla
Electricity service has been disrupted in Jumla district due to snowfall. Jumla folks are compelled to stay in dark for disruption of electricity supply in the national grid due to continuous snowfall since Tuesday.
