Guru Baral says PM must take responsibility to resolve parliamentary deadlock

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Guru Baral has said that Prime Minister Balen Shah must take a responsible role to end the ongoing parliamentary deadlock.

Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building in Singha Durbar on Monday, Baral said the House has remained obstructed due to controversy surrounding the prime minister’s remarks on Nepal’s border issues.

He said that resolving the crisis now requires direct intervention from the prime minister himself.

Baral made it clear that the opposition’s “bottom line” is for the prime minister to appear in Parliament and correct his statement.

“Parliament must be addressed by the prime minister, and the statement must be corrected. That is our bottom line,” he said.

He added that while discussions on the budget are important and time-sensitive, issues related to national borders and allegations of territorial encroachment are far more serious and cannot be ignored.

Baral further said that although there was hope for a political breakthrough after Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane returned from his India visit, the deadlock has continued due to lack of consensus.

As a result, parliamentary proceedings remain stalled, with no agreement yet between ruling and opposition parties on how to move forward.
