Former King Gyanendra unveils statue of King Prithvi Narayan Shah in Birtamod (with photos)

KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah unveiled the statue of King Prithvi Narayan Shah on Saturday at the Eastern Empire College of Hotel Management’s courtyard in Birtamod.

Accompanied by Rajendra Lingden, Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the duo, along with other supporters, participated in a kilometer-long march during the event.

Former King Gyanendra Shah arrived in Jhapa on Friday as part of his visit to unveil the statue. During his stay, he is hosted at Mechi Crown, a prominent five-star hotel in Itabhatta, Mechinagar, owned by Balaram Sapkota, also known as ‘Bale,’ who has close ties to CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli.

It’s noteworthy that Balaram Sapkota and his wife are facing a money laundering case initiated by the Money Laundering Department in 2077 BS regarding undisclosed wealth acquisition. The allegations include the possession of approximately one billion worth of assets, including 13 bighas of land in Kavre and Jhapa.

Here some pictures taken during the event:
