Senior citizens honored in Jhapa

JHAPA: Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire has asked the government not to compromise anything to honor the senior citizens.

Addressing an event at Birtamod of Jhapa district on Sunday, Speaker Ghimire said the senior citizens need respect since they are common guardians of all.

Ghimire argued that it was the government’s responsibility to ensure social security to the elderly people as some of them are rejected in their elderly age despite the dedication of their productive time, labor and skills for the cause of the country.

On the occasion, Speaker Ghimire distributed Dhaka Topi (Nepali National Cap), shawl and walking stick to 150 senior citizens from Birtamod and Kankai municipalities of Jhapa district.

Deputy Mayor of Birtamod Municipality Nagendra Sangraula shared that those receiving walking sticks were also provided with transportation costs.
