Cold claims 3 more lives among earthquake victims in Jajarkot

JAJARKOT: Three more earthquake victims succumbed to the bitter cold in Jajarkot, bringing the total death toll to 10.

Neeraj Acharya, a central member of CPN-UML and a local resident, shared the distressing news.

According to Acharya, the recent casualties include 89-year-old Sugili Nepali from Junichande Rural Municipality-4 Luhadah, 56-year-old Mansari Kami from Chedagad Municipality-13 Thanwada, and Keshav Bhadel from Taliaun Ward No. 4 of Bheri Municipality, all of whom passed away on Saturday.

The list of victims also includes Dume Pun of Barekot Rural Municipality-1 Ramidanda, 88-year-old Dhuleshwar Karki of Bheri Municipality-2, Jirika of Barekot Rural Municipality-4, and Narendra Bahadur Singh.

Others include 84-year-old Gopal Bahadur Rawal of Nalgad Municipality-4, 48-year-old Pampha Rawal of Nalgad 4, 60-year-old Bayala of Barekot Rural Municipality-4, 55-year-old Karnabir BK, and 55-year-old Bir Bahadur BK of Barekot 6, who had previously lost their lives.

The devastating earthquake, registering a magnitude of 6.4, struck Ramidanda in Jajarkot on the night of November 17, claiming 154 lives and injuring hundreds in Jajarkot and Rukumpaschim.

The aftermath left over 35,000 houses either partially or completely damaged, rendering thousands of families homeless.

Forced to endure the harsh winter conditions, these families now find themselves living in the open square with only a tarpaulin and a blanket for shelter.
