UML General Secretary Pokharel warns of ongoing attacks targeting party and Nepali Army

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel sounded an alarm, stating that UML and the Nepali Army have been targeted in a bid to subjugate Nepal.

During a special meeting convened at the UML headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Saturday, General Secretary Pokharel addressed the looming threats faced by UML, emphasizing that despite being in the opposition, the party is confronted from multiple fronts.

“There’s an ongoing conspiracy to subordinate the nation. Presently, two pillars are under attack,” declared General Secretary Pokharel. “One is the UML, and the other is the Nepali Army.”

Expressing concerns, Pokharel highlighted that weakening both the UML and the army could render Nepal susceptible to becoming a foreign playground. “The incessant attacks on UML aim to turn Nepal into a puppet state, despite UML not being in the government. However, the assaults are relentlessly aimed at us,” he stated.

Pokharel pointed out that UML faces attacks from factions labeling themselves as alternative powers. “Both the government incumbents and dissenters of the unsuccessful change have targeted UML,” he added.

Furthermore, Pokharel underscored the detrimental impact of political instability, noting that the country has grappled with crises due to the staggering turnover of prime ministers. “In the span of 34 years, the country has seen 28 prime ministers, contributing significantly to the prevailing crisis,” he remarked.
