Kathmandu Metropolis joins hand with KU for life skills education



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Municipal Corporation has forged collaboration with Kathmandu University (KU) to conduct community educational reform programs.

The main objective of the collaboration is to operate sustainably and effectively the Life skills education program initiated by the KMC under its pride projects from the current financial year, said Head of the education department Sitaram Koirala.

Department Head Koirala and the Dean of the KU education department Prof Balchandra Luintel signed an agreement towards that end at a program held here today. As per the agreement, the KMC will work together with KU to carry out classes based on practice and vocational skills. The KMC has been implementing the bookless Fridays, technology-friendly skills development program for teachers and students, reforms in pedagogy, and upgrading of early child development classes.

At present, there are 89 public schools in the metropolis. Koirala however said that the program will be gradually implemented in institutional schools as well to thereby raising the level of community education as a whole.

The KMC has allocated a budget of Rs. 500 million to implement the life skills education scheme.
