Heavy rainfall likely today afternoon, downpour to persist until Monday

KATHMANDU: With a shift in the low-pressure line towards Nepal, the country is currently experiencing precipitation across multiple areas today (Saturday).

Further intensification of rainfall is foreseen later in the afternoon, with meteorologists projecting its continuation until Monday.

The monsoon’s low-pressure axis has edged closer to Nepal’s northern boundaries, coinciding with expectations of increased rainfall due to the influence of a low-pressure system in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, India.

There exists a likelihood of the low-pressure front drawing nearer to Nepal, prompting the Weather Forecasting Division to issue a cautionary notice in anticipation of potential heavy rain.

Rojan Lamichhane, a Meteorologist at the Division, stated that rainfall will escalate starting this afternoon, persisting in its intensity until Monday.

The Division has also indicated the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain tonight and tomorrow (Sunday).

Tonight, heavy rainfall is feasible in scattered locations across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces, and isolated areas within other provinces.

Similarly, tomorrow is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim.
