Rara draws over 4,500 tourists in four months



KATHMANDU: Rara, the renowned tourist destination in Karnali Province, welcomed a remarkable influx of over 4,500 tourists from July 17 to November 16, 2023, according to the Rara National Park.

During this four-month period, a total of 4,611 tourists explored the pristine beauty of Rara Lake, with 4,490 being domestic tourists and 96 being foreign tourists, including 24 from SAARC countries. This surge in visitor numbers signals a notable increase compared to previous years.

Jay Hari Dhital, the Information Officer at Rara National Park, highlighted the substantial rise in domestic tourist visits, particularly during the Dashain-Tihar vacation period. Rara generated an impressive revenue of Rs 1.2 million during this festive season.

In comparison, the year 2079 BS saw a total of 11,000 domestic tourists, 26 from SAARC countries, and 183 other foreigners visit Rara.

To regulate entry, Rara National Park has implemented an entry fee system, with Rs 100 for each domestic tourist, Rs 1,500 for tourists from SAARC countries, and Rs 3,000 for other foreigners, as mentioned by Dhimal.

Currently, approximately 75 percent of tourists access Rara via air routes, while the remaining 25 percent travel by land.
