KATHMANDU: In the ongoing investigation into the 60 kg gold smuggling case, three additional officials from the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office have been arrested.
According to the police, the arrested individuals have been identified as Customs Officer Pushpa Joshi, Non-gazetted Officer Kamal Pariyar, and Birendra Nepali, all affiliated with the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office.
Police Spokesperson DIG Kuber Kadayat revealed that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) took them into custody based on indications of their involvement in the smuggling incident.
On July 18, authorities recovered 60.716 kg of gold that had been brought from Hong Kong in Sinamangal, with the initial investigation led by the Department of Revenue Investigation. Subsequently, the CIB assumed responsibility for further inquiries.
To date, a total of 30 individuals have been arrested in connection with the 60 kg gold smuggling case.
The prime suspect, Dawa Chiring, a Belgian citizen, has also been detained and is under investigation by the police. It has been confirmed that he holds Nepalese citizenship.
