Weather Forecast: Nepal bracing for light to heavy rainfall

KATHMANDU: With the monsoon trough axis stretching from the northern to western regions and maintaining an average orientation towards the east, Nepal is currently influenced by the monsoon winds.

As predicted by the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), several places across Nepal are bracing themselves for light to moderate rainfall and the potential occurrence of thunderstorms.

This weather scenario is a result of the combined effects of monsoon winds and a low-pressure system positioned near India’s Jharkhand region.

In anticipation of the outcomes of this weather pattern, the Division has issued alerts for potential floods and landslides in the Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces over the next 24 hours.

Presently, provinces primarily within the Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are currently under the influence of ongoing rainfall.

Throughout the day, the skies over the country are predicted to gradually shift into a partly cloudy state.

Given the evolving nature of this weather scenario, individuals are strongly advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant to safely navigate through this period of unsettled atmospheric conditions.

Consequently, there has been observed light to moderate rainfall in the Bagmati, Koshi, and Karnali Provinces, with the potential for light rain in the Kathmandu Valley later this afternoon.

The MFD cautions that certain areas within the Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces may experience light to moderate rainfall this afternoon.

Furthermore, isolated locations in the Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces could encounter heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Likewise, the provinces of Koshi and Sudurpaschim are at risk of experiencing heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning tonight.

The MFD has urged people to take essential precautions in order to mitigate potential hazards, which include floods, landslides, soil erosion, and windstorms, all stemming from the anticipated heavy rainfall.
