Will weather affect Nepal’s journey to ICC World Cup Cricket 2023?

KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team is competing against Papua New Guinea (PNG) and UAE in the final series under the ICC World Cup League 2 from Thursday.

Nepal is scheduled to face PNG in the opening match of the series to be held at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur tomorrow.

Nepal is in the top three of League 2 and is under pressure to clean sweep this series to directly qualify for the World Cup.

If there is no match due to rain on Thursday, Nepal will share the points with PNG. After that, Nepal’s dream of playing the World Cup qualifiers after a clean sweep of the series will get interrupted.

Provided Nepal has to share the points in tomorrow’s match, after winning the next three matches consecutively, Nepal will have the same 39 points with third-placed Namibia.

Although Nepal’s difficult for Nepal to separate the top three on the basis of net run rate, the mathematical possibility of points will remain.

It will be enough for Nepal to win only two matches to save the ODI status. Scotland and Oman have already secured their place in first and second position respectively.

Nepal will play the first match of the final series against PNG on Thursday, the second match against UAE on Sunday, the third match against PNG on Monday and the final match against UAE on Thursday.

Nepal is in fifth place with 32 points with 15 wins and 15 losses in 32 out of 36 matches. UAE is in sixth place with 31 points with 14 wins and 15 losses in the same 32 matches. And PNG, who won only four games, is at the bottom of the table with 9 points.
