Death toll in Biratnagar fire reaches three

BIRATNAGAR: The death toll in the Biratnagar fire has hit three.

A fire broke out in a scrap store at Biratnagar Metropolitan City-7 in Morang district on Wednesday noon killing three persons and injuring three others. The fire victims have been identified as Dipak Mandal, 40, Sushila Baswan, 55, and Sunita Kamat, 64, all of Biratnagar-6.

The latest victim was Kamat, who died today at Kirtipur-based Burn Hospital in Kathmandu.

Of other victims, Baswan died on the spot and Mandal on the way to a hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjan Kumar Dahal at the district police office.

Of the injured, Kishor Paswan, 58, Rita Sardar, 60, and Pinki Kamat, 30, are receiving treatment at the Burn Hospital, said the police.

The injured were airlifted to the hospital by a Nepal Army air ambulance. The blaze was doused with the help of six fire engines, local people and the police.

Properties worth around Rs 4 million were destroyed in the fire, said the district police office.
