T20 World Cup: Nepal and Oman to clash for championship title

KATHMANDU: Nepal and Oman are gearing up for a high-stakes battle as they contend for the title of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Zone qualifiers today (Sunday).

The much-anticipated match is scheduled to commence at 11 am at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

In the semi-final round, Nepal displayed their prowess by triumphing over UAE, securing a convincing victory by 8 wickets and thereby securing their place in the finals against Oman.

Meanwhile, Oman demonstrated their mettle by achieving a resounding victory against Bahrain, securing a commanding 10-wicket win and paving their way to the championship match.

With Nepal and Oman already having secured their spots in the World Cup 2024, today’s match holds a significant prestige for both the teams.

Notably, Nepal is aiming to avenge their earlier loss to Oman by 5 runs in the group stage, which led them to enter the semi-finals as the group runner-up.

Anticipating an intense showdown, Nepal’s head coach, Monty Desai, is contemplating making a strategic alteration to the team that played in the semi-finals.

Despite his commendable performance in the semi-final, Dipendra Singh Airee is expected to remain sidelined due to his lingering leg injury.

Although Airee returned to bolster the Nepali team during their match against UAE, he is unlikely to feature in today’s game. Instead, Sandeep Zora is poised to replace him in the team, fortifying Nepal’s lineup for the title match.
