KATHMANDU: The One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup kicks off today with an opening match at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Ground in Ahmedabad, India.

In a captivating showdown, former champions England and former runners-up New Zealand will clash in the inaugural match, scheduled to commence at 2:30 pm local time.

The 13th edition of the ODI World Cup boasts participation from ten nations, including host country India, along with England, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.

Throughout the tournament, a total of 48 matches will unfold, comprising 45 league stage encounters, two riveting semi-finals, and the grand finale.

Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to matches being held in various iconic cities such as Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

Notably, in the event of a potential clash between cricket giants India and Pakistan in the semi-finals, the electrifying showdown will exclusively take place in Kolkata.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has earmarked a generous prize fund of USD 10 million for the tournament, setting the stage for intense competition and unforgettable moments in this year’s ODI World Cup.
