KATHMANDU: Market monitoring has been intensified to curb black marketing of cooking gas and ensure smooth supply, in coordination between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.
The monitoring was tightened following repeated complaints and information received by the Industry Ministry that artificial shortages were being created in the market and cooking gas was being sold at inflated prices, despite there being no problems with gas imports from India.
According to Industry Ministry Joint Secretary Netra Prasad Subedi, market monitoring has been made more effective and regular, while the supply situation has gradually started to improve.
Industry Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav had requested Home Minister Sudan Gurung to mobilize security personnel at gas depots in Kathmandu Valley to help prevent activities that create artificial shortages and force consumers to pay higher prices.
Following the minister’s request, Home Minister Gurung directed the police administration to provide necessary coordination and facilitate the monitoring, according to his secretariat.
