UML likely to get 9 ministries; Maoist 5, RSP 3

KATHMANDU: The ruling parties have almost finalized the division of ministries among the three main ruling parties.

However, the cabinet expansion will take place only after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda takes the vote of confidence.

Prime Minister Prachanda is scheduled to take the vote of confidence on January 10.

Meanwhile, the ruling political parties held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the distribution of ministries.

Sources said that UML, which had claimed 10 ministries, has agreed on 9.

The CPN-UML has already got the Ministry of Finance, considered a key ministry.

The Maoist Center is likely to get 5 ministries including the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, while the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) will get three ministries.

It has also been agreed to give a Minister of State to RSP.

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastroya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have said they would decide whether or not to join the government only after finalizing the common minimum program.

The parties are finalizing the common minimum program on Thursday.
