KATHMANDU: The anticipated Statute Conference of the ruling Maoist Center, initially slated for December, has undergone a schedule shift.
This alteration is attributed to the demanding commitments of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who concurrently serves as the party Chairman.
The decision to delay the conference stems from the need for the Prime Minister’s participation in the Maoist special transformation campaign, a venture extended to allow for more comprehensive engagement with the people.
The announcement regarding the conference’s rescheduling emerged following the Central Committee’s meeting in Kathmandu held from August 2 to 6.
During this meeting, it was formally determined to convene the legislative conference in December, with a subsequent special convention slated six months thereafter.
In light of concerns raised by central members during the meeting, highlighting deviations from party rules and procedural irregularities, the Maoist Center opted to organize a statute meeting.
Prior to the Statute Conference, an integral step in their transformative efforts, a special Maoist transformation campaign unfolded from August 2 to December 3.
This initiative aimed to foster discussions with the public on strategies to enhance the party’s structure and functioning.
However, citing positive progress in the ongoing campaign, a decision has been made to postpone it by an additional month, now concluding on January 2, 2024.
Party Vice Chairman Agni Sapkota, asserted, “Since the campaign has been moved after a month, it seems certain that the Legislative Assembly will not take place in December.”
As an integral facet of the transformation campaign, the Maoists have undertaken systematic initiatives such as membership distribution, committee creation, and membership renewal.
