Police arrest three individuals, including Chinese in 11 kg gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: In connection with the seizure of 11 kg of gold in Dolakha, three more individuals have been apprehended, including a Chinese citizen.

The individuals arrested include Gengru, identified as a Chinese national and an associate of his named Sanat Pradhan, along with Lal Bahadur Tamang, who was involved in the buying and selling of gold.

According to SP Navraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB), the arrests took place in the Swayambhu area of Kathmandu.

The CIB subsequently handed them over to the District Police Office in Dolakha.

Authorities involved in the investigation have revealed that Gengru was discovered to have purchased gold from China.

This brings the total number of arrests in this case to seven.

The smuggling operation involved concealing gold within potato sacks and transporting it through the Dolakha crossing.

The attention of the police was drawn to this illegal activity after a bag of potatoes containing gold was stolen.

Subsequently, those responsible for the gold smuggling operation were apprehended.

While the District Police Office in Dolakha is leading the investigation, the CIB is also examining the case due to its suspected involvement in organized crime.

The gold smuggled through this operation is believed to be distributed and sold in various areas, including Bauddha, Thamel, and others, according to the police.
