ICC ODI World Cup 2027: Nepal to host World Cup League-2 kickoff

KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to host the inauguration matches of ICC ODI World Cup 2027 Inter League-2 in the capital city, Kathmandu.

The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) confirmed the commencement of a series featuring eight ICC-recognized ODI teams, scheduled to commence from next February.

The inaugural series, commencing on February 17 in Nepal, will witness intense clashes between Namibia, the Netherlands, and the host team, Nepal.

Throughout the series, these three teams will confront each other twice, while one team will engage in four one-day matches.

Unlike the previous League-2 cycle that involved seven teams, this season boasts participation from eight teams.

Remarkably, the Netherlands, formerly part of the ICC Super League among permanent members, is now actively participating in League-2.

The League-2 tournament will feature competitive matches among Nepal, Netherlands, Namibia, Canada, Oman, Scotland, UAE, and America.

In the prior edition, Nepal secured a commendable third place. Their exceptional performance, winning 11 out of the last 12 matches, not only earned them ODI status but also secured a berth in the World Cup qualifiers.
