KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ pledged to compulsorily and strictly implement the Contribution-based Social Security Scheme from upcoming fiscal year.

In his message to all Nepali workers at home and abroad on the occasion of the International Labour Day, also known as May Day and International Workers’ Day, here today, PM Dahal reiterated he will take initiation to strictly and compulsorily enforce the Scheme in industries, factories and offices.

In the message, PM Dahal vowed to incorporate at least 2 per cent workers for the awards and honours annually conferred by various organs of the State.

“Furthermore, I express my commitment to make the monitoring mechanism further active to legitimize and ensure services and facilities for workers by clearly defining their role, responsibilities and rights,” said the PM.

The Head of the State shared that he had directed all the government agencies and concerned agencies to provide occupational uniform to all workers for safety as well as to provide them proper training to operate modern machines and tools in a bid to make unskilled and untrained workers working in risky situations trained and skilled.

“I vow to stand up for the Nepali workers community especially the farmers and workers. We have a historic responsibility to usher the Nepali working-class citizens towards a new era of prosperity and social justice. I will relentlessly work to deliver on this responsibility.”

The International Labour Day (May Day) is being celebrated on May 1 worldwide including in Nepal in commemoration of the workers’ movement in Chicago of the USA in 1886 that demanded respect and rights to workers.
