He was in Kathmandu for a two-day trip as part of a regularly scheduled visit to the region.

During his visit, he met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Narayan Khadka, and discussed opportunities for greater U.S.-Nepal business ties.

He also met and spoke with marginalized groups about how the two countries can work together to protect the human rights of all, and experienced Nepal’s delicious culinary heritage.

Assistant Secretary Lu also met with business, civil society, and government leaders, the US Embassy in Kathmandu, said.

Assistant Secretary Lu also handed over the U.S. Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) to Purnaa, a U.S. manufacturing company in Nepal that promotes ethical manufacturing by empowering traditionally marginalized people and survivors of exploitation.
