Two Indian nationals arrested with marijuana

KATHMANDU: The Narcotics Control Bureau in Koteshwor has arrested two Indian nationals for their alleged involvement in bringing one kilogram and 338 grams of marijuana into Nepal from the United States through a courier service.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bhawarsingh, 23, and Bandit Patel, 33, both residents of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jeevan Niraula, joint spokesperson for the bureau, the two were arrested during a police operation launched on the basis of specific intelligence.

Police seized the marijuana on October 27 after discovering it concealed in a document shipment sent to Nepal from the United States. The drugs were confiscated using a controlled delivery operation, and both suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.

The bureau had initiated surveillance and an investigation after receiving information that narcotics were being brought into Nepal from abroad through courier services. During the investigation, police discovered marijuana in a suspicious consignment.

Niraula said further investigations were underway into the alleged drug-related offences. Police are also investigating the purpose of the shipment, its intended destination and whether other individuals were involved in the operation.
