Govt in favor of press freedom: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the National News Agency (RSS) to fulfill the responsibility of informing the general people through the dissemination of credible and official news by keeping the nation and citizens at the center.

During a courtesy call paid by newly appointed Executive Chairperson of RSS, Dharmendra Jha, at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar on Thursday, the Prime Minister advised the organization to disseminate positive and creative news in order to boost the spirit of the people.

He expressed the view that RSS, which carries the history of six decades as the news agency of the nation, should always play a role to become a means of connecting the State with the people by disseminating impartial and official news.

Advising the RSS to make its service prompt, qualitative and reliable through diverse news, the Prime Minister expressed commitment that the government would provide necessary support to enrich it.

Prime Minister Deuba further pledged that there would be no unnecessary interventions from the government in the RSS business and stated the incumbent government is always in favor of freedom of the Press.

Congratulating and extending best wishes to newly appointed Chair Jha, he expressed the hope that RSS would be able to provide more quality services during the leadership of Jha, who has been contributing a prominent role in mass media since long.
