KATHMANDU: Respected leader of the CPN-Unified Socialist Jhala Nath Khanal has said that fanciful attempts of dissolving the parliament had brought to the fore non-partisan political practice.
Speaking at a program held on the occasion of the 64th Parliament Day in Kathmandu on Thursday, he said that the people have been frustrated after even the two-thirds majority government could not work as expected.
“The two-thirds majority government could achieve nothing,” he said. “This has disappointed the people,” he said.
Stating that independent candidates started getting elected after the arbritary dissolution of the parliament, he said that the parliament should be made a forum where the issues of people and the nation needed to be discussed.
“Sometimes leaders act whimsically and dissolve the parliament. Such practice has resulted into a non-partisan tendency developing.”
Reminding that the number of independents winning local level election on May 13 this year had risen, leader Khanal attributed the trend to poor functioning of the parliament.
“Therefore, we need to make parliament a platform of public debates and discussions,” he added.
