Bridge washed away by floods in Bhadrapur

JHAPA: Floods caused by incessant rains have washed away a bridge in Jhapa and damaged another.

According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, a 12-meter-long concrete bridge connecting Chaituwari and Chaitupari on the inner road section of Bhadrapur Municipality-10 has been washed away.

Similarly, due to incessant rains, half of the west side of the concrete bridge on the Baniani River under the Postal Highway at Kunjibari of Gauriganj Rural Municipality-1 has been damaged.

As a result, the movement of heavy vehicles has been stopped to prevent further damage to the bridge.

Meanwhile, people displaced due to heavy downpour in different places of the district have started returning home.

Lokraj Dhakal, president of the Nepal Red Cross Society Jhapa, said that 164 out of 289 families displaced by the floods and rising water level have returned home.

Twelve families of Gauriganj-1, 26 families of Bhadrapur-8, 125 families of Gauradaha-6 and 13 families of Bahardashi-2 have returned home after the water level receded.

Similarly, 47 out of 60 families of Bahardashi-2 have been displaced due to the flooded Aduwa river.
