Kaag tihar observed

As part of Tihar festival, Kaag Tihar is being celebrated today as the first day of the five-day long festival. The day is observed by offering food to the crow. The crow is regarded as the messenger of Yamaraj, the Hindu god of death and justice.

Prof. Srikrishna Adhikari, Chairperson of the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, said that as the Kaag Tihar should be celebrated on the day of Trayodashi in the morning, it has been decided to celebrate this festival on Sunday as per the religious scriptures.

It is religiously believed that feeding rice pudding to crows on this day will carry a good message to Yamaraj.

NC postpones election manifesto unveiling till Monday

Nepal Congress is unveiling its manifesto for the election for the House of Representatives and Province Assemblies on Monday.

Earlier, the party had said the election manifesto would be made public on Sunday evening.

However, issuing a statement on Sunday, the party said the program to unveil the manifesto by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been postponed till 10:30 am on Monday.

Top leaders of ruling coalition reach Dhangadhi to address election-centered programs

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba reached Dhangadhi in connection with addressing the province-level training and assembly organized by the five-party ruling alliance today.

Along with PM Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, among other leaders, also addressed the assembly.

US Ambassador Thompson calls on Home Minister Khand

Newly appointed Ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand.

Various matters of bilateral mutual interest were discussed during the meeting held today at the Ministry, according to the Home Minister’s Secretariat.

Welcoming Ambassador Thompson to Nepal, Home Minister Khand expressed his gratitude for the US support to development and democracy of Nepal and hoped for continued support in the future.

Dhanwantari Jayanti observed

Dhanawantari Jayanti and Health Day was celebrated across the country by organizing a variety of programs today.

The day is observed in memory of the birth of Lord Dhanwantari, the originator of Ayurveda, the oldest Vedic medical system based on medicinal plants and herbs.

Dhanwantari Jayanti has been officially celebrated in Nepal following the establishment of the Ayurveda Campus in Naradevi, Kathmandu. The Ayurveda campus is currently shifted to Kirtipur and operates under the Tribhuvan University.

Senior politician Shrestha passes away

Senior politician and philanthropist Maiyadevi Shrestha passed away this morning. She was 93.

Lately, the Nepali Congress senior leader Shrestha was suffering from pneumonia and undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College Hospital. She was unmarried.

Her foster son Tanknath Poudel confirmed that former MP Shrestha passed away this morning at the hospital.

Kathmandu District Court extends Sandeep’s custody for fourth time

The Kathmandu District Court has allowed the suspended captain of the Nepali cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, to be detained for two more days.

According to SP Dinesh Mainali, the court has given permission to extend the custody period for 2 days for the fourth time.

The former captain is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.

The girl filed a complaint alleging that Sandeep took her to a hotel and raped her on August 21.

Authorities ban Deusi-Bhailo programs after 9 pm in Kathmandu Valley

 The chief district officers of the three districts – Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur – in the Kathmandu Valley have decided to ban playing Deusi-Bhailo after 9 PM during this upcoming Tihar festival.

Likewise, the local authorities have also prohibited bursting firecrackers and other explosives during the festival.

According to the local authorities, strict actions will be taken against those defying the government’s decision.
