KATHMANDU: The National Epidemiology and Disease Control Division on Thursday issued a  statement directing the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and health desks of border checkpoints to adopt a high alert after the cases of coronavirus surged in India.

“We have directed the health desk at each border checkpoint to adopt a high alert. We will conduct gene sequencing if the India returnees are found infected with the coronavirus,” said Director of National Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Dr Chuman Lal Das.

The government has directed the health desks of the border checkpoints including Sunauli,Pashupatinagar, Kankadbhitta, Rani, Inaruwa, Gaur, Madar, Rasuwagadhi, Tatopani, Jamunah, Belhiya, Krishnanagar, Mitranagar, Gaddachauki, Bhittamod, Jhulalghat, Pulghat, TIA to strictly conduct health screening and testing.

The recent spread of coronavirus in India is likely to spread in Nepal in the form of a third wave, warns Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, the chief of the Clinical Research Unit at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital.

New cases of Covid-19 have started surging in several states of India including in New Delhi, of late.
