Maoist Centre Chair speaks need of left-democratic alliance victory in election

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly are not just general elections, but the opportunities for safeguarding democratic and political achievements.

In his address to a program organized by the left-democratic alliance Kathmandu constituency 7 today, the leader insisted on the victory of the alliance in the elections for the protection of the Constitution, stability and prosperity in the nation.

The former Prime Minister said, “At the moment two alliances are clearly face-to-face for the elections: one alliance is progressive while another is regressive,” underlining the need of supporting the left-democratic alliance which as he said stands for progress of the nation.

He took time to say that the Nepali Congress and leftist forces had a long tradition of cooperation and collaboration to overthrow the Panchayat regime and to restore democracy in the country, and to materialize the Comprehensive Peace Accord. “The existing government was formed being based on the same tradition.”

The Maoist Centre Chair said that Manushi Yami Bhattarai, the election candidate from the constituency on behalf of the alliance, was capable of maintaining integrity and addressing the people’s aspirations.

Nepal Samajbadi Party’s Chair and former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the victory of the alliance is necessary to protect political norms and values established following a long political battle. He claimed that the political system advocated and established by the then Maoist people’s war had been mainstreamed.

Nepali Congress leader Prakash man Singh stressed that the democratic alliance should win the elections to safeguard the democracy.

A total of 29 candidates, including 16 independents and Yami Bhattarai, are contesting from Kathmandu-7 for the HoR elections.
