Pradeep Giri was political inspiration: Maoist Centre Chair Dahal

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has offered his tributes to deceased Nepali Congress leader Pradeep Giri. He offered garlands to the remains of Giri at the NC party office at Sanepa in Kathmandu.

Talking to media-persons on the occasion, the former Prime Minister said Giri, a socialist thinker, contributed immensely to the transformation of the society.

“Established as an intellectual figure, Giri was a political inspiration. Demise of Giri, who had a vision of transforming the country, would always cause a vacuum of a good politician for the country,” Prachanda said. “Inspiration and education should be taken from Giri’s contribution. He always used politics for social service.”

Similarly, former Deputy Speaker Purna Kumari Subedi offered tributes to Giri.

Giri, also member of the House of Representatives, died on Saturday night at Nepal Mediciti Hospital in Kathmandu.

Giri was admitted to the hospital after returning from India where he received treatment for throat cancer.

NC leaders and cadres, leaders and cadres of other political parties and well-wishers thronged the NC party office where Giri’s mortal remains were kept for condolence and offered their tributes. Last rites of Giri would be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today itself. (RSS)
