KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that the Constitution of Nepal has united Nepali society in a thread of broader national unity.

In a message today on the occasion of Constitution Day, President Bhandari has paid a heartfelt tribute to all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of republic, and has offered respect to all the seniors for guiding them to lay the foundation for a democratic system in the country.

President Bhandari said we are observing Constitution Day and National Day to commemorate and pay respect to the historical achievement of promulgation of a federal democratic republic, which was the result of Nepali citizens’ decades-long struggle and sacrifice.

The incumbent constitution has united the diverse Nepali society in a thread of broader national unity while ending all sorts of discrimination and suppression created by the centralized and unitary state system.

The President has stressed for equal access to all citizens in the services and facilities to be provided by the state while implementing all the fundamental rights that are ensured by the constitution.

She has also expressed the confidence that all state bodies would play neutral and justifiable roles in the implementation of the constitution.

Likewise, President Bhandari has appealed to the voters to use their sovereign franchise by actively taking part in the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assembly slated for coming November 20.
