Nov 20 election: Silence period comes into effect



KATHMANDU: Political parties will not be allowed to carry out promotional activities or canvassing from Friday as the silence period has begun.

The parties are prohibited from campaigning for the elections to the House of Representatives and provincial assembly to be held on November 20 from today.

During the silent period, candidates and parties will not be allowed to carry out any activities including canvassing, according to the Election Commission.

The silence period started at 12 am on Thursday.

“Any kind of meetings, conferences, seminars, etc., including election campaigning, cannot be held,” the EC said.

Candidates are not even allowed to promote or campaign through social media, online, or print media.
