Bhotekoshi floods: Death toll reaches 669 as 2,301 rescued



KATHMANDU: The death toll from the floods that swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers has reached 669, according to Nepal Police.

Nepal Police said 669 bodies had been recovered from flood-affected areas as of 4 pm on Saturday.

According to the Police Headquarters in Naxal, 13 bodies have been recovered in Rasuwa, 49 in Dhading, 41 in Nuwakot, 54 in Gorkha, 31 in Tanahun, 248 in Chitwan, 158 in Nawalparasi East and 75 in Nawalparasi West.

Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle said 2,301 people have so far been rescued from flood-affected areas. Of those rescued, 676 were from Rasuwa, 1,622 from Nuwakot and three from Dhading.

Seriously injured people rescued from various locations have been brought to Kathmandu for further treatment. Police said 140 injured people are currently receiving treatment or have been discharged from hospitals in Kathmandu.

Some personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Nepal have also gone missing following the floods.

According to police, 44 Nepali Army personnel, 27 Nepal Police personnel and 13 Armed Police Force personnel remain unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations for those still missing have been intensified in the affected areas. Security personnel and rescue teams from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and other concerned agencies are continuing operations in areas considered at risk.

Police said priority is being given to locating missing people and carrying out rescue operations while authorities continue to assess the human and physical damage caused by the floods.
