Committee of Inquiry begins investigation on suspended governor Adhikari

KATHMANDU: The Committee of Inquiry formed by the governor has started its investigation on the allegations made against Nepal Rastra Bank’s suspended Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

The probe committee formed on April 8, the very date the Governor was suspended, started its work from April 17.

The government had decided to automatically suspend Adhikari by forming an inquiry committee headed by former Supreme Court Justice Purushottam Bhandari. The committee has started investigation now. The committee has to submit its report within one month from the day it started its work.

Meanwhile, Governor Adhikari has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Council of Ministers.

Stating that the government dismissed him from the job without informing and without explanation, suspended Governor Adhikari  has demanded the revocation of the decision.

The apex court will conduct hearing on the writ petition filed by Adhikari on Tuesday.

With Adhikari’s suspension, his deputy Neelam Dhungana has been officiating as the acting governor of NRB.

Adhikari was appointed governor of the central bank by the erstwhile KP Oli government in April of 2020, prior to which he served as the chief executive officer of the Investment Board Nepal.
