Impeachment panel in discussions with lawyers named by suspended CJ Rana

The parliamentary Impeachment Recommendation Committee has begun discussions with the legal eagles named by the suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana during his statement before the panel.

Earlier, the Impeachment Recommendation Committee meeting, which was supposed to be held at 1 pm, was postponed to 3 pm.

The panel is in discussions with 7 legal professionals, including two former office bearers of Nepal Bar Association.

Outgoing President of Nepal Bar Chandeshwor Shrestha, General Secretary Leelamani Paudyal, former presidents of Nepal Bar Shambhu Thapa, Harihar Dahal, Former Attorney General Raman Shrestha, Advocate Omprakash Aryal are in discussions with the impeachment panel.

Joint in-charge of Maoist Center Chitwan Pariyar joins UML

CPN-Maoist Center’s joint in-charge of Chitwan district Yam Bahadur Pariyar has defected to the CPN-UML.

UML Chair KP Sharma Oli welcomed Pariyar into the party at the UML Central Party Office in Lalitpur on Thursday.

A permanent resident of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-13, Pariyar served as the chair of Chitwan district during the rule of Nepal Communist Party that was formed through merger of the UML and the Maoist Center.

Pariyar contested the Constituent Assembly election from Chitwan-1 in 2006 and faced defeated from UML leader Lalmani Chaudhary.

Pariyar is nominated by the Maoist Center for Provincial Assembly member from Chitwan Constituency No. 3 (b).

He said he defected to the UML as the Maoist Center was weak in terms of political ideology and organization.

Three members of single family killed in landslide

Three members of a single family were killed in a landslide this (Thursday) morning at Bethanchwok rural municipality-4 in Kavrepalanchwok.

The deceased have been identified as Neer Bahadur Tamang, his younger sister Sabitri Tamang and mother Thulimaya Tamang, 65.

According to the police, the siblings were killed on the spot while mother breathed her last at Banepa-based Sheer Memorial Hospital.

Chair Dahal for change in electoral system and governance

Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the country was in need of structural reforms for economic development.

Addressing the central general convention of Federation of Nepal Industry and Trade here Thursday, Chairperson Dahal praised that businessperson had tremendous role to make country self-reliant.

“In the past, we were self-reliant on foods and used to export as well. But, we have been importing much now. Nepal, known for production and use of gundruk, is now importing it,” he reminded a harrowing reality, urging everyone for skills and entrepreneurship development.

He further stressed the need for changing present electoral system and governance model.

HIDCL signs agreement to invest Rs 53.140 billion on Upper Arun Hydropower project

Hydropower Investment and Development Company Limited (HIDCL) has signed an agreement to invest in Upper Arun Hydropower Project.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Upper Arun Hydro Electric Limited and HIDCL to raise investment for the construction of 1061 megawatts semi-reservoir project.

In the presence of Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal, an agreement was signed between Upper Arun Hydroelectric Limited, and HIDCL at Everest Hotel in Baneshwar.

Nepal sees 126 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 119 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

Of the confirmed cases, 75 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 51 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,790 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 1,674 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,116 through the Antigen method.

MDMS launched to contain grey mobile phone imports

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has launched the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) to discourage illegal import, sale and distribution of mobile phone sets.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki inaugurated the system aimed at containing possible entry of smartphones through an illegal channel and their sale and distribution. With this, the stolen and lost sets would be tracked and blocked.

Similarly, mobile phone sets brought from foreign countries individually and brought in operation to date will be automatically registered in the MDMS.
