KATHMANDU: Government agencies have stepped up rescue and response efforts after floods and landslides caused widespread destruction in Rasuwa.
The NepalI Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been mobilized for search, rescue and relief operations.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has also intensified its response. All available helicopters have been placed on standby for potential rescue and relief operations.
Chief district officers in the affected areas have been instructed to immediately relocate residents living in low-lying and riverside areas to safer locations.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has also called an emergency meeting of the Disaster Council to assess the situation and coordinate rescue, relief and other response measures.
Flooding has caused major damage to three police offices in Rasuwa district, according to Nepal Police Headquarters.
The Police Headquarters said significant damage has been reported at the Area Police Office in Timure, the Police Post in Syabrubesi and the Police Post in Rasuwagadhi.
Police Headquarters said detailed information about the extent of damage to the offices and the condition of police personnel stationed there is yet to be received. Further details are expected once communication and access to the affected areas are restored.
