Govt has got no proposal for SPP agreement: Law Minister Sharma

'There are attempts to discredit government'

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Govinda Prasad Sharma has said that the US State Partnership Program (SPP) agreement has not been proposed to the government so far.

Speaking in a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Minister Sharma said that the government has not received a proposal to sign the SPP and has no intention to sign it during Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s proposed visit.

He labeled the rumors as the attempts to discredit the government.

“The Government of Nepal has not been invited or proposed any State Partnership Program agreement. We have not received any proposal. This is completely wrong, false. It’s just a game to discredit the government, “Sharma said in the parliament.

He remarked that no foreign army could enter another country without taking permission from the host country.

Earlier, main opposition party CPN-UML had objected to the SPP in the House and demanded an answer from the government, while Congress MP Gagan Thapa had also demanded that the Prime Minister should immediately respond to the queries.
