EC to print only 4 separate ballots for Nov 20 polls; only election symbol of candidates to be printed

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has said that there will be only four separate ballots for the November 20 elections: two each under first-past-the post and proportional representation systems for electing Provincial Assembly members and House of Representatives members.

According to the Election Commission, only the election symbols of the parties that file nominations in each constituency would be kept on the ballot paper in the Provincial Assembly and House of Representatives elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the EC planned to print the ballot papers by keeping only the election symbols of the candidates who registered in each constituency towards first-past-the-post system.

As the election symbols of all the registered parties were printed on the ballot in the May 13 local election, the size of ballot papers was also large and many votes had been invalid due to the same. The parties had also formed an alliance in the local elections.

If the EC keeps only the election symbols of the candidates in each constituency, it is expected to put the parties at ease to form a direct alliance.
