KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband held a telephone conversation on Thursday to discuss the devastating floods that have caused widespread loss of life and property in Nepal.
During the conversation, Miliband expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and damage caused by Wednesday’s floods and extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
Miliband said the UK government and British people stand in solidarity with Nepal and the Nepali people during the difficult situation. He also assured that the UK government is committed to providing necessary support to Nepal to deal with the aftermath of the floods.
The British Foreign Secretary also sought information about the ongoing search and rescue operations in Nepal and inquired about efforts to locate and rescue British nationals who remain unaccounted for following the floods.
In response, Foreign Minister Khanal briefed Miliband on the search and rescue operations being carried out by the Nepali government.
Khanal thanked the UK government for its readiness to support Nepal and for expressing solidarity with the country during the disaster.
The floods have caused significant loss of life and property across several parts of Nepal, while search, rescue and relief operations continue in the affected areas.
